WHAT THE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WILL HURT THEM
TENNESSEE MEMBERS; IN NOVEMBER, PLESE VOTE NO TO AMENDMENT 1
Legislative: The Labor Day Rally was held at Carver Park in Johnson City on September 6. Georgia Turner spoke to the media concerning Amendment 1, which proposes adding Right to Work to Tennessee's State Constitution. Right to Work is wrong and the term is deceptive. RTW laws don't have anything to do with the right to work. They are designed to bust unions by depriving us of the funds we need to protect and defend workers.
RTW supporters say they want to protect workers from "forced unionism". That is just not necessary. Under U.S. law no worker can be forced to become a union member. Please ask your family and friends to vote no against Amendment 1 in November.
The PRO Act Means More Power For Union Members
When workers organize, mobilize, and strike together we can build power and win the wages, benefits, and working conditions we need and deserve. But that can be extremely difficult when our current laws keep the balance of power tilted in favor of CEOs and the super-rich.
The problem is, when CEOs and the 1% hold so much power, our economy and laws stay rigged in favor of the wealthy. They get richer while our wages stay stagnant and our working conditions get worse. We need big change.
The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act is historic legislation that will put power in the hands of workers and reverse decades of legislation meant to crush unions. The bill will completely change labor law as we know it and shift power away from CEOs to workers.

HBO010 is the Save Tennessee Call Centers Jobs Act. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Bud Hulsey, who has constitutents in our Johnson City Call Center. If a company moves 30% or more of call center work from Tennessee to an overseas call center, they will lose incentives and grants. This bill is a win, win for consumers and workers.
UPDATE: After the last hearing in April 2021, the bill was sent to summer study. We will post updates as we receive them.
